How frequently should you replace your mattress?

Updated: Aug 28, 2022

Finding the right mattress is so important - since we spend a lot of our lives sleeping, a comfortable and supportive mattress is key - finding the perfect mattress is a huge relief. But all good things come to an end - even if your mattress has served you well, there will come a time when it's time to say goodbye to it. So how do you know when it's the right time to say goodbye? Let us talk about how you can tell that your mattress has had its day. If you pay attention to these clear signs, it should be quite easy to tell. Signs that you need a new mattress Before you start looking for signs that your mattress is on its last legs, consider how long you have owned it. The average lifespan of a mattress is between seven and 10 years. So if you bought your current mattress more than 10 years ago, it's probably time for an upgrade.

Even if that number is closer to the seven-year mark, it may still be time to buy a new unit. To determine if it's time to replace your mattress, look for the following signs. 1. your mattress is Saggy

If your mattress is Saggy, it's a clear sign that you need a new mattress. Sagging can occur when the coils in a mattress weaken or the memory foam loses its shape.

In some cases, you can also tell a mattress is sagging because you can see a distinct body imprint in the mattress - this is especially the case with heavier people, whose bodies can leave a deep indentation in the mattress. If you get up and your mattress does not quickly return to its normal flat appearance, it may be time to consider a new mattress. 2. Your mattress makes a lot of noise Squeaking noises and squealing metal sounds can be a sign that your mattress should be replaced. This is especially true for mattresses with coil springs. You can fix this problem by tightening the screws in the mattress or box spring.

However, a noisy mattress can also mean that the coils are starting to age and are not as supportive as they once were; this could mean that the mattress is sagging, and you are no longer getting the support you need. 3. your mattress has a bad smell. It may not be very pleasant, but it could be that your mattress is starting to smell. This can happen over time as mold and fungus build up in the mattress - if you live in a humid climate, it can happen even faster.

If you are smelling your mattress, it may be time to get rid of it.

4. Your Mattress Aggravates Your Allergies When mold, mildew and dust mites invade a mattress, they can aggravate problems with allergies. If you frequently wake up with watery eyes, a runny nose, and a headache, the allergens in your mattress could be the cause.

There are some materials (such as natural latex and wool) that can prevent allergens from accumulating, so allergy sufferers should look for these materials when buying a new mattress.

5. you wake up with pain If you wake up in the morning with severe pain, it could be a sign that your mattress is not as comfortable or supportive as it used to be.
